Theme Park Halloween Events in Southern California in 2022 #1

Sept 2nd – Oct 31st 2022: Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort, California

Disney started their Fall or Halloween themed celebrations all the way back on September 2nd this year and it will run till the end of October.  We’re quite partial to this choice because before the pandemic, we used to love going to Disney (we had annual passes for a few years before the pandemic and prior to the Magic Key program), and really enjoyed attending during the Halloween season!

Disneyland always has a variety of extra daily events and entertainment themed for the holidays, as well as special treats.  One of their events, a Halloween party called the Oogie Boogie Bash, was already sold out this year in 2022 (got to book early online to get into most Disney special events) but if you are reading this blog for inspiration in future years check out their website maybe you can still score a ticket if you act early enough.

Nevertheless, there is plenty of themed things to see at the two parks, they’ve got characters in Halloween themed costumes, holiday themed rides, special treats and décor, and a whole lot more! There are different events held at each of the separate parks, so check online for more details to confirm what events you would like to attend, or get a park-hopper pass for entry to both.

Sept 8th – Oct 31st 2022: Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood

Universal Studios Hollywood have brought back their Horror Nights, said to be the most intense, immersive and scariest Halloween event at any theme park in Southern California  This year they began on September 8th and they go till Halloween on October 31st and are the second of the Theme Park Halloween Events in Southern California in 2022 to start for the year.

Halloween scares are not quite our style, but if that’s your thing, they hold it on select nights throughout the September / October season starting at 7pm and on average finishing at 2am!  Aside from 8 different Haunted House attractions and the Terror Tram to survive there are also multiple scare zones where scarily costumed actors, some with chainsaws and other props, will charge at you to keep your adrenaline pumping.

Even The Wizarding World of Harry PotterTM  gets into the theme this year with the Death EatersTM Encounter, presumably during the evening (website does not indicate), an event previously only seen at the Orlando location.

On top of that you can find various of the food vendors around the park including special menu items, including themed cocktails, some of which include a set of pointy teeth for your own transformation.  Also noteworthy is the Bungbarrel Spiced Mead from the Hog’s Head Inn in Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

During the day the scares tone down, but you can still walk through the scare zones (mercifully without being charged upon) to check out the amazing attention to detail in the sunlight and enjoy other themed attractions, food and memorabilia.

Sept 9th – Oct 31st 2022: Beachside Fall Fest at Belmont Park

The Beachside Fall Fest at Belmont Park is a little different from all the other Theme Park Event for Halloween in 2022.  Belmont Park starts with free entry (and parking): it costs you nothing to get in.  But then you need to pay for each ride or attraction you are interested in enjoying.  As far as their Fall Fest weekends, they add a variety of seasonal attractions such as live music in their Midway area, the Seasonal Go Kart Track, Specialty Treats, the Pumpkin Plunge (in their plunge pool), character appearances, and free trick or treating for the kids.  There are even signature fall drinks for the adults such as festive beer on tap.

Six Flags evenings also contain more of the same frightful fun with 14 Haunted Houses, multiple Scare Zones, and riding thrill rides in the dark, but they also include three “Monster-tainement” shows.  “The Rising” features the battle of good versus evil set on a sunken pirate ship, “Unleashed” is the 7pm nightly breakout of the Fright Fest monsters, and lastly “Voodoo Nights” boasts a ghoulish dance party ( “where ghoul rock goes pop with today’s hits” ?!).  You can also get a separate ticket for the Spirits with Spirits all-you-can-eat buffet dinner that includes unlimited soft drinks and a ticket for a free cocktail or mocktail.
