When it comes to Pumpkin Patches in Southern California there seem to be hundreds of pumpkin patches opening for the season.  A quick Google Maps search can reveal dozens of pumpkin patches throughout the various SoCal counties, many with their own unique flair and entertainment for kids and families.  Listing them all is a little too daunting a task right now, but we went through a bunch and came up with our top picks for Pumpkin Patches spread across 4 counties, looking for those that stand out with something special to offer.  Our hope is that wherever you are in Southern California, one of these is within your reach.

Pumpkin Patches in Southern California for 2022 #1

Sept 17th to Oct 31st 2022: Irvine Park Railroad’s Pumpkin Patch.

Located in Irvine, Ca in Orange County, this place is  awesome even without the Fall Décor.  The Irvine Park Railroad’s Pumpkin Patch opened it’s harvest seasonal activities on Sept 17th this year and will run till Halloween. The parking is $3 per vehicle on Weekdays and $5 per vehicle on Weekends.  Entrance  to the pumpkin patch itself is free.  Once inside you can choose which activities you want to participate in and then buy the tickets onsite.

Of course there’s the pumpkin patch which has a bunch of sizes to choose from, but then you have the seasonal activities for kids like a hay maze, a bounce house, face painting, some carnival games, a hay ride, haunted house and other  activities, but you can also enjoy what the park normally offers outside the Halloween & Harvest Festival season, such as the train rides which do happen to be decorated for Fall,  as well as the paddle boats, rental bike & pedal carts/surreys, and even a zoo which are all just a short walk away, still within the Irvine Regional Park.

Pumpkin Patches in Southern California for 2022 #2

Sept 17th to October 31st 2022: Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Patch

You’ll find the Bates Nut Farm Pumpkin Patch in San Diego County.  Their website  does not have too many pictures to show what it will look like or what it has looked like in previous years, but they do list that they have been doing fall traditions for over 50 years.

They have a wide range of different Pumpkins, squash and gourds for sale in all shapes and sizes and other fall décor.   They also have  Activities listed include tractor hay rides, a straw maze, face painting and Henna, a farm zoo, and an interactive petting corral which is rumored to include being able to feed Alpacas, Pony Rides, and live entertainment on the weekends.  As always you can enjoy picnicking, visit the animals at their farm zoo, or peruse their farmer’s daughter boutique or the Bate’s Nut Farm Store.

Sept 23rd to Oct 31st 2022: Live Oak Canyon Pumpkin Patch

In San Bernadino County we found Live Oak Canyon Pumpkin Patch in Redlands .They have a pretty extensive set up with over 50 points of interest including rides, a corn maze, a multitude of fair games and so much more!  Just to mention their large food court area, multiple photo opportunities, train, carousel, petting zoo, corn flyer ride, and the chicken show (?!) to name a few options, if you then include the live entertainment multiple times through the day, there is a lot to enjoy for the whole family.  Seemingly living up to their hype as the largest outdoor pumpkin patch in all of Southern California, it has to be one of the most fun-filled Pumpkin Patches that we’ve come across.

Keep Live Oak Canyon Farm in mind when it comes to getting a live Christmas tree as well as from November 25th to December 23rd they change to a Festive Farm. Their website already mentions Santa, day and night train rides, petting zoo, rides, a garden of Christmas lights,  and of course, lots of beautiful green Christmas trees to buy.  We may yet add them to our 2023 Christmas event list too!

Oct 1st to October 31st 2022: Mr. Jack O’Lantern’s Pumpkin Patch La Jolla/Wind and Sea

Though we are focusing on the San Diego County site in La Jolla, CA,   Mr. Jack O’Lanterns Pumpkin Patch is a family-owned business that actually have several locations in LA, San Diego and even far away South Florida.  With free entry and parking, they offer a range of activities that vary according to each location.  In La Jolla they have a good amount of original sounding options including pumpkin bowling which is pretty unique from what we’ve investigated so far!  Other activities include Photo stations, Pumpkin Tic Tac Toe, “Booketball”, Pumpkin Carving and Decorating just to name a few.

Oct 1st to Oct 30th 2022: Cal Poly Pomona Pumpkin Fest.

Another venue with a lot to offer is the Cal Poly Pomona Pumkin Fest which has not only a large corn maze, a separate Kids maze, and then an additional sunflower maze! With lots of photo opportunities, options to enjoy include a petting farm, Hay wagon ride, Duck races, their Pumpkin Hill pumpkin patch and lots more.  Grab some food and drink at the Grub & Club and then on the weekends listen to live Country and Blue Grass Music in The Barn, enjoy Ag themed demonstrations, and peruse the Hand Made Artisan and Craft Marketplace.

Don’t forget to grab some fresh produce and fruit straight off the CPP Farm from the Farm Store, and also check out the separate CPP Farm Stand for Honey and Pumpkin Flavored treats, decorations and more!

Pumpkin Patches in Southern California for 2022 #6

Oct 8th – 30th 2022: Pumpkins in the Pines at Skypark Santa’s Village

Perhaps better known for their Christmas theme, during weekends in October Skypark Santa’s Village holds the Pumpkins in the Pines event.  With a pumpkin patch (“where Santa has hand-picked each pumpkin for you”!?), Trick-or-Treating from 3pm, Costume Contests, and a variety of activities during the days including the Legend of Sleepy Hollow Puppet Show, and a show by the magician Wacko, there are lots of fun things to do.

The info on their website is a little short on details (An incomplete list of attractions was found here), but on specific days there are extra activities on their calendar such as the Halloween Monster Mash Skate Night with live DJ on Saturday the  29th, a “Dead Man’s Party Concert on the evening of the 21st and on  the 22nd and 29th they open the “Fantom Forrest” Hiking Trail which is great for young children for the first hour, and then on the second hour is only for ages 13+.  Check out their website for more information.

Of course, the Skypark also has their standard activities such as the Silver Bells Arena skating rink (Ice in the winter, roller skating in the ‘s summer), Pedal cars on the “Arrow’s adventure and Magic Portal” track, the Magic Tree bouldering Room (indoor rock climbing) and Floki’s Frozen Falls Climbing Tower (Outdoor simulated Ice-climbing experience) , King Celwyn’s Ax throwing, Princess Evergreen’s Archery Range, and the Northwoods Sharpshooter Gallery just to name a few.  Some activities may require an additional fee, but many of them appear to be included in the entrance cost.  The Bike Park and trails are perfect for Mountain biking.

Oct 7th to Oct 30th 2022: Mr Bones Pumpkin Patch

Located in Los Angeles county in Culver City, they start their seasonal fun on October 7th this year and will run until October 30th . They have food, entertainment on the weekends, and other onsite activities such as super slides and giant rocking horses, bounce houses, straw mazes and even a petting zoo.  You even get to go choose, buy and decorate your pumpkin all while having a blast!
